Williams showcased his goalkeeping prowess by saving spot kicks from Chancel Mbemba and Meschack Elia during the penalty shootout, securing the bronze medal for Bafana Bafana in Ivory Coast.
The match, characterized by a lively pace, saw DR Congo squander numerous scoring opportunities during regular time. Despite their efforts, they were unable to find the back of the net, ultimately leading to the penalty shootout.
South Africa’s victory maintained their flawless record in third-place play-offs, reminiscent of their triumph over Tunisia on penalties 24 years ago.
Ahead of the match, South Africa made three changes to their lineup from the previous semi-final, with Nkosinathi Sibisi, Thapelo Morena, and Mihlali Mayambela joining the starting eleven.
