AC Milan Rich History And Legacy In Italian And European Football, Acquires New Stadium Away From San Siro
AC Milan, renowned for its rich history and legacy in Italian and European football, is embarking on a transformative journey to secure its future. The club recently made headlines by acquiring a substantial 256,000 square meter parcel of land in the San Donato municipality, a strategic location southeast of Milan, roughly 15 kilometers away from its iconic home, the San Siro Stadium...CONTINUE READING..
This strategic move marks the beginning of AC Milan’s ambitious endeavor to construct a cutting-edge stadium with a seating capacity for 70,000 spectators. The San Siro, also known as the Giuseppe-Meazza Stadium, has been a historic venue shared by city rivals Inter Milan since 1947. While it holds a special place in football lore and has witnessed countless unforgettable moments, the aging stadium no longer meets the modern standards required by top-tier clubs.
Initially, both AC Milan and Inter Milan entertained the idea of demolishing the San Siro to make way for a new shared stadium on the same site, complete with facilities for sports, entertainment, and retail. However, this plan was thwarted when the San Siro was designated as a structure of “cultural interest,” protecting it from demolition.
The new stadium project represents AC Milan’s vision for a sustainable and multifunctional landmark. The club aspires to make the new stadium the most environmentally friendly in Italy and one of the leading examples of sustainability in Europe, aiming for LEED Gold certification. Energy-saving features, renewable energy sources, and a water recycling system will be integrated into the stadium’s design.
In addition to the main sporting arena, the comprehensive development plan includes provisions for a sports center, office spaces, a public park, a museum, and a club store. The club envisions a vibrant complex that caters to various needs and interests, fostering community engagement and enriching the fan experience.
With construction progressing steadily, AC Milan aims to have the entire project completed by April 2024, paving the way for the possibility of opening the new facility ahead of the 2028/29 season. As the club looks forward to a new era in its illustrious history, the new stadium represents a symbol of progress and innovation, embodying AC Milan’s commitment to excellence on and off the field...CONTINUE READING..
